- The government’s decision to recognise CE marking indefinitely means that companies no longer must change completely to UKCA marking for 18 product categories.
- On August 1, 2023, the UK Department of Business and Trade (DBT) confirmed that the European ‘CE’ safety label for products will be retained permanently.
- Compliance with and application of the CE mark alone will allow products to be sold in the UK after 2024, exactly as they are in the EU.
- The expansion will provide businesses with the flexibility and option to sell their products in the UK using either the UKCA or CE method.
- These changes affect the 18 regulations administered by the Department of Business and Trade (DBT). They are as follows:
- Toys
- Pyrotechnics
- recreational craft and personal watercraft
- Simple pressure vessels
- electromagnetic compatibility
- Non-automatic weighing instruments
- Measuring instruments
- Measuring container bottles
- Lifts
- Equipment for potentially explosive atmospheres (ATEX)
- Radio equipment
- Pressure equipment
- Personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Gas appliances
- Machinery
- Equipment for use outdoors
- Aerosols
- Low voltage electrical equipment
- The following are not yet included in this latest easement, but the UK Government may issue a statement on how they may be affected in due course: medical devices, construction products, cableways, transportable pressure equipment, unmanned aircraft systems, rail products, marine equipment, and eco-design.
