The Seychelles Communications Regulatory Authority (SCRA) will shortly be established, with the role of regulating and governing the broadcasting and electronic communications sectors.

  • Under the new law, the SCRA will make decisions to encourage the growth of Seychelles’ sectors and will also be responsible for awarding various types of licences, rather than the Seychelles Licencing Authority (SLA), as is the case now.
  • In addition to the SCRA, the Bill establishes a Communications Tribunal to hear and examine the merits of appeals to SCRA judgements, directions, and orders.
  • The new law will abolish and replace the Broadcasting and Telecommunications Act (2000), and it is consistent with worldwide best practices.
