New Notification G.S.R. 271(E) – Amendment in Low Power and Short Range Radio Frequency Devices

The Government of India has recently published Notification G.S.R. 271(E) dated 24 May 2024, introducing significant changes to the use of Low Power and Very Low Power Short Range Radio Frequency Devices. These amendments are crucial for manufacturers, importers, and users of short-range devices, as they impact both device categories and operational frequencies.

Key Changes Highlighted in G.S.R. 271(E):

  1. Transport and Traffic Telematics Device Category Removed

    • The Transport and Traffic Telematics specific device category has been removed and is no longer applicable for short-range radio frequency devices. This change means that any devices previously classified under this category will need to adhere to the new guidelines for short-range devices.

  1. Introduction of a New Frequency Band for Non-Specific Short-Range Devices

    • A new frequency band of 24.00 to 24.25 GHz has been introduced for Non-Specific Short-Range Devices.

    • The new power limit for devices operating in this band is set at 100 mW.

    • This change expands the operational flexibility for manufacturers of short-range devices, allowing them to develop products within this newly allocated frequency band.

Impact on Compliance and Certification

These changes directly impact the compliance requirements for short-range radio frequency devices in India. Manufacturers and suppliers must ensure that any new products adhere to the updated standards.
