The Communications, Space, and Technology Commission (CST) has revised its “IoT Regulatory Framework” and renamed it “IoT Regulations.” This update aims to encourage investment and innovation in the Internet of Things (IoT), improve service quality and efficiency, enhance user experience, and strengthen the regulatory environment in Saudi Arabia.

A key update is the introduction of a requirement for a compliance certificate for all IoT devices imported into and used in the Kingdom.

The updated regulations mandate that all IoT devices imported into and used in Saudi Arabia must obtain a compliance certificate from the CST. This ensures that the devices adhere to the required technical standards for operation within the country.

Main Regulatory Highlights:

  • Alignment with the national regulations set by relevant Saudi Authorities.
  • The user manual for IoT devices must provide a clear explanation of the device’s features, functionality, and how limited or disrupted connectivity may impact its operation.
  • Manufacturers are obligated to inform IoT users about communication security and the best practices for utilizing IoT services effectively.
  • It highlights the need for IoT devices to be interoperability various platforms and services.

It allows to utilize foreign SIM cards to function for a duration of 120 days in Saudi Arabia. After this period, they must be switched to local SIM cards to adhere to national communication regulations.
