As of June 24, 2025, the transition period for AS/NZS 62368.1:2022 has officially ended, and the standard is now fully in effect for RCM approvals in Australia and New Zealand.
This means that all Telecommunications, Information Technology (IT), and Audio/Visual (AV) equipment being supplied to the Australian or New Zealand markets must now demonstrate compliance with this latest version of the standard.
🔍 What is AS/NZS 62368.1:2022?
AS/NZS 62368.1 is a harmonised standard based on the international IEC 62368-1, focused on audio/video, information and communication technology equipment safety. It replaces the older standards:
- AS/NZS 60950-1 (IT Equipment)
- AS/NZS 60065 (AV Equipment)
The 2022 edition introduces a hazard-based safety engineering (HBSE) approach, rather than focusing on specific product types. This methodology evaluates potential energy sources and applies safeguards accordingly, providing a more adaptable and modern approach to safety in a world of converging technologies.
📌 What Products are Affected?
The standard applies to a broad range of products, including but not limited to:
- Computers and servers
- Monitors and displays
- Network equipment (e.g., modems, routers, switches)
- Audio systems and amplifiers
- Smart TVs and set-top boxes
- Telecommunications devices
- Other combined AV/IT equipment
⚠️ What Does This Mean for Manufacturers and Importers?
If you’re placing any AV, IT, or telecom products on the Australian or New Zealand market:
Products must be tested and certified to AS/NZS 62368.1:2022.
Only compliance with this edition will be accepted under the Regulatory Compliance Mark (RCM) scheme.
Compliance documentation must be updated to reflect adherence to the current standard.
If your product was previously certified under AS/NZS 60950-1 or AS/NZS 60065, retesting and recertification may be required.
