On 11th July 2025, MeitY, under the chairmanship of Smt. Asha Nangia (Scientist-G, MeitY), held a stakeholder consultation to discuss the migration of product categories under IS 13252 (Part 1:2020) and IS 616:2017 to the newly published IS/IEC 62368-2023 (Edition 4).
- 42 product categories (27 from IS 13252 & 15 from IS 616) will migrate with a 3-year transition period.
- AR/VR devices introduced as a new product category, with a 6-month implementation timeline (industry suggested 1 year).
Key Industry Inputs:
- Appreciation of the 3-year migration timeline Request for series-based testing (model-based instead of full range)
- Concerns on handling BIS registered products (R-numbers) for AMC, warranty, and replacements.
- Proposal to simplify standard marking & consolidate categories
Clarifications from BIS/MeitY:
- All 42 categories will migrate together (with limited exemptions)
- Series based testing is not finalized yet, BIS to issue guidelines & expedite lab recognition.
- Industry comments/suggestions invited for series guidelines, AR/VR migration, and marking

- Submit industry comments on migration & AR/VR timelines
- Provide suggestions on series guidelines to MeitY
- Share implementation inputs directly with BIS
- Submit representation to BIS on marking changes
If no further comments are received, MeitY will notify migration of all 42 categories (3-year transition) and AR/VR devices (6 months).
