The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has officially updated the standard for Digital Television Receiver for Satellite Broadcast Transmission Specification from IS 18112:2022 to IS 18112:2025. The date of implementation for the revised IS 18112:2025 is December 30, 2025.

The updated version introduces key technical and procedural enhancements aimed at simplifying compliance and ensuring consistency across the industry.

Updated definitions (aligned with IS 1885:2023).
Inclusion of IS/IEC 62368-1 as an alternative safety standard.
Annexure for abbreviations added.
Power consumption requirements removed (covered under BEE regulations).
Additional compliance guidance in test tables.
Mute → Unmute function added in remote controls.
Editorial corrections incorporated.
BIS Guidelines for Manufacturers
All television manufacturers are required to comply with the latest Indian Standard. BIS has also issued revised implementation guidelines to support a smooth transition. Key points include:
Applicability:
- All TV sets (Plasma/LCD/LED) must comply with IS 18112 along with the safety standards IS 616:2017 / IEC 60065:2014.
Implementation Deadlines:
Mandatory compliance with IS 18112:2022 is extended from 26 Oct 2025 to 26 Jan 2026.
Transition to the revised IS 18112:2025 must be completed by 30 Dec 2025.
Licensing:
Existing licensees must include IS 18112 compliances in their licences.
Licences not upgraded to IS 18112 by the due dates may face cancellation.
The Standard Mark will now use one combined licence number for IS 616 / IEC 60065 and IS 18112.
This revision ensures alignment with global best practices, strengthens consumer safety, and supports streamlined certification for the television industry. By harmonising definitions, updating safety provisions, and simplifying licensing, the IS 18112:2025 standard helps manufacturers remain compliant while enhancing product quality and reliability for Indian consumers.
