The Chilean regulator SUBTEL has issued Resolution 737, establishing a new compliance regime for short-range radio-frequency devices such as WiFi, Bluetooth, ZigBee, RFID and related equipment.
Starting 22 February 2026, all short-range devices commercialised in Chile must bear a specific QR code on their external packaging.
What You Need to Know
The QR code must link to a dedicated online page containing:
Brand, model, device type, serial number or batch range
Technical RF specifications (frequency band(s), transmission power, protocol, EIRP)
Importer/manufacturer details (name, tax ID, Chile address, contact)
Supporting documentation (test reports, declaration of conformity, user manual)
Traditional type-approval certification by SUBTEL will still be required for medical wireless devices, but not for the broader SRD (short-range device) market.
Products non-compliant with Resolution 737 by the effective date may face enforcement actions including fines, seizure or market-withdrawal orders.
The shift to QR-based compliance reflects a broader trend toward digital traceability, streamlined regulation and improved transparency in global telecom markets.
For manufacturers and importers targeting Chile, this means preparing packaging and documentation early, ensuring QR pages remain live, and adapting internal workflows to reflect the new labeling requirement.
What Actions should you take now?
If this regulation affects your product, take action through:
- Identifying all product models in your portfolio that fall under the SRD category (WiFi, Bluetooth, ZigBee, RFID, etc.).
Build or host the online compliance page per SUBTEL’s QR-requirements.
Generate print-ready QR codes (minimum 2 cm × 2 cm, minimum 300 DPI, ISO/IEC 18004 compliant) and integrate them on your product packaging.
Audit your existing documentation: RF test reports, declarations of conformity, importer/manufacturer details and user manuals in Spanish.
Ensure your packaging placement of the QR is visible without opening the box (e.g., back or side panel).
Monitor the effective date and plan your Chile market entry accordingly to avoid delays or regulatory risks.
