On May 5, 2025, the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) issued an official notice postponing the implementation of a previously scheduled mandate for ISM band Wi-Fi routers. The regulation, originally set to take effect following a directive issued on November 7, 2024, has now been deferred for three months, with the new enforcement date set for August 4, 2025.
Overview of the Requirement
The deferred policy would have required all Wi-Fi routers intended for production, import, or sale in Bangladesh to support both the 2.4–2.483 GHz and 5.725–5.850 GHz frequency bands. This dual-band compatibility aims to promote consistent device performance and enhance interoperability across a wider range of wireless environments, benefiting both residential and commercial users.
Reason for Postponement
The BTRC cited public interest considerations as the primary reason for delaying the enforcement timeline. While the directive itself remains in force, this extension is intended to give stakeholders—including manufacturers, importers, and vendors—additional time to align with the technical requirements.
The delay also helps alleviate potential supply chain challenges and ensures a smoother transition to the updated compliance standards across the market.
