India’s WPC Extends Timeline for 6 GHz Band (5925–6425 MHz) Compliance

The Wireless Planning and Coordination Wing (WPC), under the Department of Telecommunications, has announced an extension to the compliance timeline for enabling the 5925–6425 MHz frequency band under its revised regulatory framework.

The timeline for completing the prescribed compliance requirements has been extended by a period of three months, with effect from 6 April 2026. This update follows the earlier Public Notice issued on 6 March 2026 and applies to all relevant stakeholders, including equipment manufacturers, importers, vendors, service providers, and end users.

What This Update Means

The extension provides stakeholders with additional time to complete the necessary compliance actions under the revised framework for the 6 GHz band. It is intended to support a smoother transition by allowing organisations to finalise required documentation, align their products with regulatory expectations, and complete any outstanding procedural steps.

While this additional time offers short-term flexibility, it should be viewed as a limited window to ensure full readiness ahead of enforcement. Access the official notification below.

Understanding the 6 GHz Band (5925–6425 MHz)

The 5925–6425 MHz frequency range forms part of the globally recognised 6 GHz band, which is being progressively enabled to support high-capacity wireless technologies such as Wi-Fi 6E. This spectrum plays a key role in addressing growing demand for faster data speeds, improved connectivity, and reduced congestion in wireless networks.

In India, the use of this band is governed by the WPC framework, which outlines the regulatory and compliance requirements for equipment operating within this frequency range.
