South Africa Type Approvals
ICASA & NRCS
South Africa Type Approval is a regulatory process managed by two main authorities: ICASA (Independent Communications Authority of South Africa) for telecom and radio equipment, and NRCS (National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications) for safety and EMC compliance of electronic devices.
To sell or market devices in South Africa, manufacturers must obtain approval from ICASA for radio and telecom products and NRCS for safety and EMC requirements. These approvals ensure that the devices meet local standards and are safe for use in the country
NRCS
NRCS focuses on the safety and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) of electronic products. Devices such as household electronics, industrial equipment, and other electrical goods must meet NRCS standards to ensure they are safe for consumers. Approved products must carry the NRCS compliance mark.
ICASA Approval
ICASA is responsible for regulating telecommunications and radio frequency devices. Products like mobile phones, Wi-Fi routers, and Bluetooth devices require ICASA type approval to ensure compliance with local spectrum and connectivity standards. After approval, products must display the ICASA logo and type approval number.
