The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) of Qatar has officially announced its plan to phase out 3G networks across the country by December 31, 2025. This strategic move aims to accelerate the adoption and expansion of 4G and 5G technologies, ensuring that Qatar remains at the forefront of modern telecommunications.

As part of its strategic efforts to enhance telecommunications services in the country, the CRA has directed Ooredoo Qatar and Vodafone Qatar to discontinue their 3G services by the end of next year.

Alongside the 3G phase-out, the CRA has implemented an immediate ban on importing mobile devices that solely support 2G and 3G technologies. Moving forward, only devices that are VoLTE-compatible and meet CRA’s standards will be allowed for use in Qatar.

This initiative supports Qatar’s National Vision 2030, which seeks to diversify the economy and improve residents’ quality of life by providing top-tier telecommunications services.

The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) is prioritizing the enhancement of Qatar’s telecommunications infrastructure by directing service providers to shift their investments toward the development and expansion of 4G and 5G networks.

This strategic move aims to ensure improved connectivity and a superior user experience for residents, aligning with the country’s broader technological goals. The CRA’s initiative underscores its commitment to fostering a more advanced and reliable telecommunications environment in Qatar.
