In electrical engineering and infrastructure, low voltage switchgear plays a crucial role in maintaining safety, reliability, and efficiency. These systems are responsible for protecting electrical equipment and ensuring the uninterrupted operation of power distribution in residential, commercial, and industrial settings.
The Indian certification journey for low-voltage switchgear is driven by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) through its Scheme X certification, notified on 9th May,2023. This certification ensures the quality, safety, and reliability of low-voltage switchgear and control gear products. Scheme X, which replaced the earlier Scheme II which originally notified on 11th November, 2020, aims to enhance safety and compliance with Indian standards, particularly the IS 60947 series.
The Ministry of Heavy Industries has extended the date of implementation for the following product categories from May 10th , 2025 to November 10th, 2025. The other product categories notified will follow the date of implementation as mentioned in the Electrical Equipment (Quality Control) Second Amendment Order, 2024.
