The Wireless Planning & Coordination (WPC) Wing, under the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), has released new Guidelines No. R-11017/11/2025-PP, titled “Use, Retention and Disposal of Wireless Equipment under WOL/Experimental/Demo Licenses.”
The guidelines have been effective since 15th October 2025.
Key Highlights of the Guidelines
The newly published document provides much-needed clarity and procedural guidance to license holders in the event of cancellation, expiry, or termination of WOL, Experimental, or Demo licenses.
Key provisions include:
A Disposal Certificate must be uploaded to the WPC portal within 7 days of completing the disposal process.
Any E-waste generated from radio equipment must be disposed of in accordance with the E-Waste Management Rules, 2022 and their subsequent amendments.
These measures aim to enhance regulatory accountability while supporting environmentally responsible management of wireless equipment and associated components.
Regulatory Relevance
The guidelines mark a significant step in strengthening India’s wireless equipment governance framework, ensuring that disposal and retention processes are transparent, traceable, and environmentally compliant. They also align with India’s ongoing emphasis on sustainable electronic waste management and responsible technology use.
