The Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) has resumed issuing voluntary exemption letters for certain radio equipment entering the country, according to industry reporting. After a period during which these letters were unavailable, manufacturers can once again apply for official exemption documents for specialized radio products.
Importantly, this applies to non-standard wireless devices — that is, specialized radio products operating outside standard Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and WWAN (cellular) technologies. For these products, a voluntary exemption letter provides written confirmation of their regulatory status, which can be valuable for customs clearance and for demonstrating compliance position where full Type Approval is not required.
For manufacturers and importers of specialized wireless equipment, this is a practical and welcome development, restoring a documented route to certainty that had previously been closed.
Because this change is recent, companies should confirm the current requirements — and whether their specific device qualifies for a voluntary exemption letter — directly with NTA or a local representative before relying on one.
