NCCS Regulatory Update- Clarification on Main Model & Associated Model for Security Certification

The National Centre for Communication Security (NCCS) has released a detailed notification that clarifies how associated models can be included under the main model for security certification. This update resolves long-standing ambiguities around the process, providing manufacturers and applicants with clear guidelines to avoid common mistakes.

Key Points from the Notification:

  1. Main vs. Associated Models:

    • Only associated models with identical software to the main model are eligible for inclusion in the security certification.
    • If the associated model’s software is derived from the main model’s software without new components, it may also qualify upon successful demonstration.
  2. Grouping Restrictions:

    • Grouping of different applications or certificates for security testing is not allowed. Each main model must undergo its own security certification.
  3. Exemption Possibilities:

    • If the main model has already been certified and the new application involves identical associated models, the applicant can apply for exemption from further security testing.
  4. Practical Scenarios Provided:

    • The NCCS notification includes practical examples for various cases, guiding applicants through the certification process.
