EU Regulatory Update: Decision (EU) 2025/893
On 14 May 2025, the European Commission published Decision (EU) 2025/893, amending the list of harmonised standards under the Radio Equipment Directive (RED) 2014/53/EU. This update impacts various radio equipment categories, including:
- 📞 Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications (DECT) devices
- 📡 Short-Range Devices (SRDs)
- 🛰️ Satellite communication systems
- 🌐 Wi-Fi and broadband systems (including 5 GHz and 6 GHz bands)
- 📶 5G and mobile networks (IMT)
- 🌦️ Aeronautical and meteorological radars
- 🎥 Wireless digital video links
🕒 Transition Periods:
Most older standards remain valid until 15 November 2026, with EN 301 893 V2.1.1 extended until May 2028.
Key Highlights:
- EN 303 687 V1.1.1: This standard for 6 GHz WAS/RLAN equipment has been published with restrictions. It does not fully address narrowband devices, and certain testing procedures rely on non-disclosed specifications, limiting its presumption of conformity.
- EN 301 893 V2.1.1: The older Wi-Fi 5 GHz standard has an extended transition period, allowing manufacturers additional time to comply with newer requirements.
- New Standards Added: Several new harmonised standards have been introduced, including:
- EN 301 908-25 V15.1.1: IMT cellular networks – New Radio (NR) User Equipment
- EN 303 661 V1.1.1: Ground-Based Synthetic Aperture Radar (GBSAR) systems
- EN 303 753 V1.1.1: Wideband Data Transmission Systems in the 57–71 GHz band
