On August 22, 2025, China officially released the updated mandatory national standard GB 26572-2025 – Requirements for the Restriction of the Use of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Products on the National Standard Information Public Service Platform. On the same day, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology held a press conference to provide a detailed briefing on the standard.
Effective Date and Transition Period
The standard will come into force on August 1, 2027. For products manufactured or imported prior to this date, a one-year grace period will be granted, allowing enterprises to sell off existing inventory until August 1, 2028.
Key Updates Enterprises Should Note:
- Expanded List of Hazardous Substances
The number of regulated hazardous substances has increased from six to ten, with the addition of four phthalates. - New Product Classification and Usage Restrictions
Electrical and electronic products are now classified into Class I and Class II, each subject to different levels of restriction requirements.
Enterprises are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the new requirements and begin aligning their compliance processes ahead of the implementation date.
