The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) has introduced a QR Code mandate under its Standards & Labeling (S&L) Program. This initiative aims to empower consumers with instant access to key product information, helping them make better-informed decisions when purchasing energy-efficient appliances.
By scanning the QR code displayed on the appliance, buyers can instantly view important product details such as:
Star rating
Energy consumption
Model specifications
Manufacturer information
This step marks a significant stride toward improving consumer awareness, market transparency, and accountability within the energy-efficient appliance segment.
Appliances Covered Under the Mandate
BEE has mandated the integration of QR codes on the following categories:
Refrigerators (Frost-Free)
Refrigerators (Direct Cool)
LED Lamps
With the latest update, BEE has also announced that the QR code of each registered unit of Frost-Free and Direct Cool Refrigerators must be mapped with the corresponding production data.
The date of implementation for this functionality is set for 1st October 2025.
The QR code initiative represents a major step forward in digitising India’s energy efficiency framework. By linking every product to its verified performance data, BEE strengthens trust between consumers, manufacturers, and regulators — ensuring that energy-efficient products deliver on their promise of performance, reliability, and compliance.
