The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has announced an extension of the implementation timeline for the new Indian Standard IS 16103 (Part 1): 2025 / IEC 62031: 2018, which covers Safety Requirements for LED Modules for General Lighting. The last date of implementation has been extended by six months.
The revised implementation deadline is now 21 July 2026.

Compliance Requirement for Manufacturers
All LED module models that are currently registered with BIS under IS 16103 (Part 1): 2012 are required to transition to IS 16103 (Part 1): 2025 / IEC 62031: 2018 by 21 July 2026.
Failure to update registrations or comply with the revised standard may result in cancellation of registration or deletion of existing models from the BIS registry.
Background
The revised version — IS 16103 (Part 1): 2025 — aligns India’s safety requirements for LED modules with the latest IEC 62031: 2018 framework, ensuring improved electrical and mechanical safety, thermal performance, and component reliability. This extension gives manufacturers additional time to complete testing, documentation, and product re-registration under the new standard.
