Department of Consumer Affairs has amended the Legal metrology (Packaged Commodities) Amendment rule 2023 on October 6th 2023. The rule will be implemented from Jan 1st 2024 as declared earlier. Following two amendment rules have been included in the rule.
i) The spare parts and components of the main device or equipment shall be exempted from the rule. The spart parts or components could be for the servicing purpose to be not sold to end customers and the components which are sold separately for replacement purpose.
ii) Month and year on the packaging of electronics items can be incorporated at any place as long as the information is clear and visible to customers.
