The Ministry of Communications (Telecommunication Engineering Centre) has issued a new notification under the Telecommunications Act, 2023, outlining mandatory standards and conformity assessment requirements for telecom equipment under Phase-VI of the Mandatory Testing and Certification of Telecommunication Equipment (MTCTE) scheme.
What is MTCTE?
The MTCTE scheme ensures that telecom products meet essential safety, technical, and security requirements before they are sold, imported, or used in India. This regulatory framework plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety, performance, and interoperability of telecommunication equipment within the Indian market.
What’s New in Phase-VI?
The latest notification introduces new mandatory testing and certification standards for a range of telecommunication products, including:
Cellular Customer Premises Equipment (CPE)
Fixed Wireless Phones
SAN Switches
Network Security Management Equipment
Satellite Communication Equipment
And more
Manufacturers, importers, and distributors of these products will need to ensure full compliance with the updated standards. Non-compliant equipment will not be permitted for import, sale, or distribution after the specified deadline.
Compliance Deadline
The conformity assessment and certification will become mandatory 180 days from the date of notification. Businesses must ensure their products meet the latest requirements within this timeframe to avoid market disruptions.
