📅 Implementation Timeline
The revised standard will come into effect on 19 November 2025.
⚙️ BIS Implementation Guidelines
Existing licensees must apply for full test reports as per the new IS 16242 (Part 1):2025 / IEC 62040-1:2017 for all lead models under their licence.
Applicants must also provide an undertaking stating which models/series comply with the revised standard.
If test reports have already been issued against the old standard (2014/2008 version), applicants must submit a declaration confirming compliance with the revised standard by the final implementation date.
Non-compliant licences/models will be cancelled or deleted after 19 November 2025.
This transition underscores BIS’s commitment to ensuring higher safety and performance standards for UPS and inverter products in India, bringing them closer to global benchmarks.
