The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has officially opened certification for three International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT) frequency bands, each with defined operational parameters and technical compliance requirements. This move reflects the government’s targeted strategy to regulate spectrum use for private network deployments and railway communication systems.
Authorized IMT Frequency Bands and Their Applications
The newly approved frequency bands include:
- IMT Band N79 (5G): 4700 – 4800 MHz
- IMT Band B31 (LTE): 452.5 – 457.5 MHz and 462.5 – 467.5 MHz
- IMT Band B39 (LTE): 1900 – 1915 MHz
N79 and B31 are exclusively available to Apparatus Assignment (AA) license holders for private network operations.
B39 is allocated solely for railway radiocommunications, supporting mission-critical applications such as high-speed data, real-time voice, video streaming, and group communications for railway networks.
Technical and Certification Requirements
All equipment operating in these bands must comply with MCMC’s established technical standards and regulatory documents:
- Band N79 (5G): SRSP MS 4700 and Technical Code MCMC MTSFB TC T016:2021
- Band B31 (LTE): SRSP MS 450 and Technical Code MCMC MTSFB TC T015:2022
- Band B39 (LTE): SRSP MS 1900 and Technical Code MCMC MTSFB TC T015:2022
For Band B39, applicants must submit a declaration letter confirming that the equipment will be used strictly for railway communication purposes.
Additional Regulatory Notes
Import permits, labeling, and certification procedures remain aligned with existing MCMC protocols.
All applications must follow the standard approval process to ensure regulatory consistency across communication equipment certifications in Malaysia.
