The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has announced the establishment of a regulatory framework for the upper 6 GHz spectrum band (6425–7125 MHz), a significant step towards enhancing wireless communication capabilities in the country.
The consultation will begin from first half of 2024.
This consultation will investigate its potential applications in 5G wireless broadband, Wi-Fi, and emerging satellite technologies.
The upper 6 GHz frequency band will remain restricted under EMBARGO 81 until further notice to preserve future preliminary planning options.
The lower 6 GHz band (5,925 – 6,425 MHz) has already been authorized for use by radio local area networks (RLANs).
