In November 2024, the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) of Egypt released version 1.3 of its Radio Spectrum Guidelines for Short-Range Devices (SRDs).
The updated Guidelines now incorporate the 5925-6425 MHz (6 GHz) frequency band, designated exclusively for indoor use by Wireless LAN (WLAN) devices.
RLAN devices operating in the 6GHz band must function within the 5925–6425 MHz range, with a maximum EIRP of 250mW. These devices must utilize digital modulation techniques, such as those outlined in the IEEE 802.11ax standards. For now, their use is limited to indoor settings.
This regulatory change aligns with global trends toward expanding the availability of spectrum for advanced wireless services, particularly as demand for high-speed internet connectivity continues to rise. By enabling WLAN devices to operate within the 6GHz band, NTRA is supporting the growth of next-generation wireless technologies, while maintaining effective spectrum management practices to avoid interference with other existing services.
